The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Tuesday from Dubai that Spain will ban children under the age of 16 from accessing social media and will adopt other measures to increase control over digital platforms and ensure that their executives are held accountable for violations. Sánchez made this announcement in his speech to the plenary session of the World Government Summit and announced that next week the government will approve a series of measures, including this ban.

Toddlers' screen time has a negative correlation with their language skills, according to a study published in PLoS ONE. However, the use of educational content and screen time in the company of adults show a positive association with language skills. The study included nearly 1,900 children between one and four years old from 19 Latin American countries.

A study conducted with nearly 58,000 boys and girls revealed that increased television or DVD screen time starting from 12 months of age had a negative impact on later development, as reported by JAMA Pediatrics.
