The widening gap between disposable income and house prices is strongly correlated with poor health, preventable deaths and suicide, according to a study using data from 27 countries, including Spain, between 2000 and 2019. The research is published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health.

A study of hospitalised young people in the United States concludes that those with a diagnosis of gender dysphoria are four to five times more likely to be hospitalised for a suicide attempt or to have attempted self-harm. The research is published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health.

Artemis

After almost three months of delays caused by various technical problems and two hurricanes, the Artemis I mission was successfully launched this morning, the first of a programme that will take the first woman astronaut to the moon. It has 42 days ahead of it, during which the spacecraft will orbit our satellite and test the stability of this lunar orbit, because in the future a space station will be located there to receive the astronauts on their journey from Earth.

A panel of experts set up by the journal The Lancet Oncology analyses the impacts of the covid-19 pandemic on cancer treatment and research and makes recommendations to mitigate these problems. With an estimated one million cancer diagnoses lost across Europe in the past two years, the team warns that the continent is heading for a cancer epidemic in the next decade if health systems and cancer research are not urgently prioritised.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued a statement recommending skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth to improve the survival of premature and low birth weight babies. Until now, in clinical practice it was common for the first phase after birth to take place in the incubator.

At current CO2 emission levels, there is a 50 % chance of exceeding 1.5°C warming in nine years. This is one of the conclusions of the Global Carbon Budget 2022 report presented by its coordinator, researcher Pep Canadell, at a briefing organised by SMC Spain.

The Global Carbon Project (GCP) today releases its Global Carbon Budget 2022 report. The main conclusion is that there is no sign of a decrease in global CO2 emissions and, at current levels, there is a 50 % chance of exceeding 1.5°C warming in nine years. The results will be published in the journal Earth System Science Data.

An international team with WHO participation concludes that global covid-19 infection rates may be higher than reported. The research, published in the journal PLOS Medicine, is based on a systematic review and meta-analysis of seroprevalence studies published between 1 January 2020 and 20 May 2022.

Niño

Research published in the journal PLOS Medicine has studied the occurrence of sequelae following covid-19 in 46% of the German population. It concludes that they affect all ages, including children and adolescents.
